"It's kind of fun to do the impossible."
- Walt Disney
When you need a web site you usually have a specific objective.
An advertisement for a product, a personal home page,
entertainment, a company web site, a site offering assistance, etc.
Usually web site design can be divided into two categories,
informative web sites and presentational web sites.
|
Informative web sites
Contain loads of information, should work with
any browser on any computer, should load fast even
if the user has a very slow internet connection. Also,
navigation has to be very simple to make it possible
to find any information quickly.
In other words, the main purpose of such web sites is to deliver
information to the user. We usually make such sites
database driven and organize all the information with an
intuitive interface.
The faster users get the information, the sooner they'll be back
to your site!
|
Presentational web sites
Usually introduce and advertise some product
or service. Such sites should attract the attention of the users
as soon as they open it. Presentational web sites uaually contain
a lot of images.
These kinds of web sites use the latest features of
web browsers to make the site as interactive as possible.
We tend to use Flash and Dynamic HTML for presentational sites.
The more attractive the site is, the more likely the user will try your product,
service or whatever else you choose to introduce.

As with most things, web design has exceptions
and some web sites contain a mixture of informative and presentational
content and design.
